Merry Christmas!

   Merry Christmas everyone!
  "A star, a star—
       dancing in the night
with a tail as big as a kite...
                         Do you hear what I hear?
             ...A song, high above the trees,
        with a voice as big as the sea...
The Child, sleeping in the night,
He will bring us goodness and light—
...Let us bring Him silver and gold."
                                                                               (Christmas carol)
  The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light;
            those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
                                     on them light has shined.

                                                                          Isaiah 9:2

  "Many a man has sought to be god,
destroying the world on his way.
But only One God ever thought to be man,
and He was born on Christmas day.

  The world, unaware that the Baby was born—
and none seemed to care on that first Christmas morn.
Only shepherds came running from hills far away,
to see the King of all kings,
to bow and obey the Baby asleep in the hay."

  "Veiled in flesh the God-head see;
hailed incarnate Deity—
       Pleased as Man with men to dwell,
                              Jesus, our Emmanuel.
Hark! The herald angels sing 'Glory to the Newborn King!'

  Hail the Heaven-born Prince of Peace;
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
risen with healing in His wings.
Mild, He lays His glory by,
born that man no more may die—
Born to raise the sons of earth,
born to give them second birth.
Hark! The herald angels sing 'Glory to the Newborn King!' "

                                                         (--traditional Christmas carol, by Charles Wesley)

  'Then two wonders happened at the same moment. One was that the Voice was suddenly joined by other voices; more voices than you could possibly count. They were in harmony with it, but far higher up the scale: cold, tingling, silvery voices.

  The second wonder was that the blackness overhead, all at once, was blazing with stars. They didn’t come out gently one by one, as they do on a summer evening. One moment there had been nothing but darkness; next moment a thousand, thousand points of light leaped out – single stars, constellations, and planets, brighter and bigger than any in our world. There were no clouds.

  The new stars and the new voices began at exactly the same time. If you had seen and heard it, as Digory did, you would have felt quite certain that it was the stars themselves which were singing, and that it was the First Voice, the deep one, which had made them appear and made them sing.'

                                                               --C.S. Lewis,  The Magician's Nephew

  "Hope that You don't mind our manger—
how I wish we would have known.
But long-awaited holy Stranger,
make Yourself at home.
...Word now breaking Heaven's silence,
...unto us is born.

So wrap our injured flesh around You,
breathe our air and walk our soil.
Tiny Heart who's blood will save us,
perfect Son of God,
welcome to our world."
                                                          (--Chris Rice, Welcome To Our World)

  ...Sometime I will have to get into my thoughts on how snowflakes reflect that great herald of light, the Star of Bethlehem, reminding us of the day God came to be with us in our own flesh.  What a beautiful thought;  millions of reminders made of tiny ice crystals, recalling the Star sent to light the way to a humble, but all-deserving King, coming down to meet with Humanity in a way we could further understand.
