Eternity Pieces --a thought

  A thought to contemplate for today...  Kind of in poetry form, but not totally.  Obviously I think about the subjects of eternity and beautiful things quite a bit.  ;)

  Eternity Pieces
                   --by Bree M. M. - written 9/29/14

  Tiny pieces of our eternity
lost so long ago in Eden, when we decided that somehow
He must not really know best, and leaped at the chance
to try to be gods ourselves—
Those little flecks of the eternal world we were meant to enjoy;
the gold dust of what we shattered all that time ago;
Some of those little bits of paradise
still float through our world.
  We find them caught in raindrops and sunbeams
and light breezes and tossed back and forth on the oceans.

Animals and amazing photos of them that you have never seen! on we ...
  Every time we find one -hidden in a sight or sound
or a special moment- we again taste Eternity—
We taste what we were made for, what we long for;
and it helps pull us on toward the new Eternity
our Maker is preparing for us,
when we'll finally fill that empty place
the little gold flecks soothe and irritate—
when we finally walk again with God.

Has not the whole earth a voice?

  'Does not all nature around me praise God?

Milky Way

                                                                  If I were silent,
                         I should be an exception to the universe.

  Does not the thunder praise Him as it rolls like drums in the march of the God of armies?  Do not the mountains praise Him when the woods upon their summits wave in adoration?
          Does not the lightning write His name in letters of fire?

Has not the whole earth a voice?
                               And shall I, can I, silent be?'

                                                                                                  --C. H. Spurgeon

'Drop Thy still dews of quietness
                  till all our strivings cease;
                                ...[in] the beauty of Thy peace.'

                                                                                          --John Greenleaf Whittier

  Draw near to God
          and He will draw near to you.

                                                                           James 4:8
  "Though we are but a vapor, you and me, and tiny and frail—
                     we are marked by Majesty."

  Many, O Lord my God,
           are the wonders which You have done.

And Your thoughts toward us;
There is none to compare with You.
                If I would declare and speak of them,
             they would be too numerous to count.

Comparing Man and Animals

  Thought I'd share something I wrote out for the 'Beginnings Perspective' Creation Science class I'm teaching this semester.

  Over the last few weeks in the class we've been talking about having a correct perspective on the environmental debate based on a Biblical worldview.  And about how your view of the environment, whether or not it's correct, will drastically effect how you view Man and Animals and their relation to each other.
  So here's one page of some of the things we talked about.  :)

  --Comparison of Man and Animals--
                                           What makes Mankind different from
                                                          the other creatures on the earth?

All flesh is not the same flesh:  But there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of
                                                            beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
                                                                                                  1 Corinthians15:39

  It is often claimed by the world at large that Mankind and Animals should, in every aspect of life, have equal rights and equal value — but that idea is based purely in Evolutionary thought;  the idea that Man is really just an evolved, “higher form” of animal life.  If that were true and Man really was  only an “advanced animal”, then people who make this claim for equality would have a valid point.

  In contrast, according to the word of God’, all living things have value, but not all living things have equal value.

  God has placed Mankind as a steward, a caretaker, over all the rest of creation.  Man is placed just a little lower than the angels, but as ruler over all the earth, to tend and care for it as for another’s prized possession.

“You have made them a little lower than the angels;  You have crowned them with glory and honor,
subjecting all things under their feet."  (quoting from Psalm 8) Now in subjecting all things to them,
                      God left nothing outside their control.
                                                                                                  Hebrews 2:7-8

    What makes Mankind different from the other parts of creation?

  Plants    Have a body only;
                           The body can respond to its surroundings and to changes in its surroundings, and can itself
                              change little bits (by loss of genetic information—no new information is gained)  at a time to
                              continue to survive in its environment.
                           The body is one of two aspects (along with the spirit - see below) that were directly affected by
                              the Fall and the Curse when sin entered the world;  now the body is subject to defect,
                              decay, and death until the world is made right again at the return of Jesus.
  Animals    Have a body, and a soul;
                               The soul can feel emotion, care for other creatures and things, make decisions, etc.  It is
                                   mostly governed by instinct, fight-or- flight reactions, and so on, and controls how the
                                   body responds in animal kind.
Me walking again sunset
  Mankind    Has a body, a soul, and also a spirit;
                                 The spirit is what gives man the ability to discern right and wrong;  ability to wonder and
                                    ask difficult questions about purpose and meaning;  to want to discover, and to create
                                    from what we find;  and it is made for relationship — especially relationship with God.
                                    In mankind, the spirit is what controls both the body and the soul.
                                 Along with the body (and to some extent, the soul as well), the spirit was directly effected
                                    by the Fall and the Curse of sin on the world.  The spirit is eternal, and was made for
                                    eternal things, but it is now subject to confusion because of dwelling in a broken
                                    creation.  Our spirit is what will always feel empty when we try to fill it with anything
                                    besides a relationship with the everlasting God who created it;  the One who wrote
                                    its ‘instruction manual’ and knows exactly how it was made and what it longs for and
                                    truly needs.

 The LORD Most High is the One who gives life to every heart, who gives life to the spirit!
                                                                                                  Isaiah 38:16

Dolphin Tale --movie review

Dolphin Tale is a WONDERFUL movie.  If you haven't seen it yet, it's totally worth it.

A visually beautiful, inspiring film, Dolphin Tale is based on the true story of Winter, a young dolphin who loses her tail to an accident—  and manages to survive, thanks to her playful spirit and Sawyer, the 11-year-old boy who loves her.

Sawyer is a thoughtful kid who busies himself working on model planes and helicopters, but isn't doing well in school, isn't comfortable making friends, and is dealing with missing his cousin and only friend who's deployed overseas.

Then one day while biking to school, a dolphin stranded on the beach changes all that.

Sawyer cuts the dolphin free and stays with her, stroking her smooth skin until help arrives.

For the first time, Sawyer begins to come out of his shell because of the special connection he has with Winter.

Winter, without her tail

Winter's tail is so infected that it has to be taken off.  But despite the fact that no other dolphin has survived this, whenever Sawyer is nearby, Winter perks up and whistles happily.  She'll do just about anything for him, and Sawyer begins spending more and more time at the aquarium with her— which means school is falling even more by the wayside.

But Sawyer has at last found something he wants to study.

Once his mom sees the reason Sawyer has been late for (and even missing) school, and how interested he is in everything at the aquarium, she decides to ask his teacher to give him school credit for his work.  When that doesn't go well, his mom decides it's time to home school him.
(yey for a movie that shows homeschooling in a positive light! :) )

Now Sawyer is free to spend as much time as he wants playing with Winter.

After visiting his cousin at an army hospital, Sawyer gets an idea, and decides to ask a doctor there make Winter a prosthetic tail.

A prosthetic tail for Winter

The only concern:  Will Winter accept her new tail?

Dolphins are one of a very few animals that really make me come alive.  I love everything about them, and the filming in this movie did a wonderful job displaying their grace, their intelligence, and their playful spirit.

I found nothing at all to object to in this movie.

It choked me up many times, and showed the power of touch and the amazing kind of friendship that can only be built between a dolphin and a human being.

surrounded by all this beauty."

Go see Dolphin Tale for yourself!!
(and yes, Winter does play herself in this movie  :) )
